Deloitte-Intel Trial Recognizes Improved Mobile Team Productivity with Colligo Workgroup Edition
Case Study reports that access to better mobile technologies increased billable hours at accounting firm
Vancouver, BC, -- October 25, 2005 - A 90-day trial conducted by Intel Corporation involving 70+ workers at accounting firm Deloitte Australia, concluded that the productivity of its workers improved when they utilized computers equipped with Intel Centrino mobile technology and Colligo Workgroup Edition, a software tool that enables team members to connect laptops via ad-hoc wireless networks to share data and communicate electronically.
According to the case study published on Intel's website
(
http://cache-www.intel.com/cd/00/00/19/23/192306_192306.pdf), faced with the reliance on customer networks to connect to the Internet and with
tightened access control restrictions at client sites that block access to Deloitte's Virtual Private Network (VPN), Deloitte needed a new solution to remain
productive away from the office. "As a professional services firm we're a highly mobile workforce," said Tim Fleming, Australia's Chief Information Officer
at Deloitte, in the study. "But it's very difficult for our people to connect at client sites. Just getting an e-mail often required them to go back home or to
the office. And increasingly, client networks are more and more closed for security reasons, so some tools didn't have the right access they needed to
work properly. We needed a mobile solution that's not reliant on client networks."
Tests of Colligo's "instant network" software showed how wireless technologies helped Deloitte employees form ad hoc workgroups that link up workers anywhere, be it at the client's office or in the middle of nowhere. The researchers reported that location-independent workgroups significantly improved collaboration among Deloitte employees, helping them serve clients better than before. According to the case study, "Colligo exemplifies the instant collaboration that is possible when workers can remain continually connected. This capability will become important to Deloitte workers in the future."
"There's a great opportunity for Deloitte to really take advantage of this technology and help our people be connected regardless of their location," the study quoted Damian Cook, Director at Deloitte. "This has made them more productive and introduced a big shift in terms of work-life balance. We want our people to be able to work smarter, not harder."
Access to better mobile technologies improved Deloitte's bottom line: almost half of the pilot participants said improved mobility had increased billable hours by an average of more than three hours per week, because they spent more time working and less time looking for somewhere to log on. With over 250,000 licenses of Colligo's products shipped worldwide and approximately 70,000 Colligo Workgroup Edition users in the accounting industry alone, Colligo's value is widely recognized by many of the top professional services firms worldwide. Colligo continues deployments of Workgroup Edition at several of the "Big Four" and many smaller firms.
